Faith Formation

Faith Formation at St. Mark seeks to meet each parishioner on his or her own faith journey to both broaden and deepen it.  All Catechetical programs for children, youth and adults  presume and build on regular, active participation in the liturgical life of the parish.  Worship, in particular in the Sunday Eucharist, has from the beginning been the fundamental context in which the faith of the Church has been nurtured, stimulated, and deepened; and it continues to be central to Catholicism.  We are committed to enriching the liturgical experience by providing lifelong learning in religious education from preschoolers through teens.  In addition, we view the family as the primary educator; therefore, parental involvement is integral to all levels of children’s and youth faith formation and sacramental preparation.  We strive to provide learning opportunities that are engaging, enlightening, and worthy of those responding to their vocations as lifelong learners.

Baptism

The celebration of baptism is the first step in the initiation process of your child, "Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments,"

(CCC 1213).

The hope of our Family Faith Formation program at St. Mark is to help strengthen the seed of faith planted in the hearts of our children at Baptism. This growth continues for the whole of one's life, "Faith is a gift destined to grow in the hearts of believers. Adhering to Jesus Christ, in fact, sets in motion a process of continuing conversion, which lasts for the whole of life. He who comes to faith is like a new born child, who, little by little, will grow and change into an adult, tending towards the state of the "perfect man", and to maturity in the fullness of Christ"

(General Directory of Catechesis, 56).
